As with most AMA Daytona Sportbike races, predicting a winner is next to impossible. The 2011 Daytona 200 was no exception. Despite running at the tail end of the lead pack, Jason DiSalvo would go onto make history by giving Ducati their first ever Daytona 200 victory. |
Jake Zemke on Pole for 2011 Daytona 200

With just one scheduled race for the 2011 season, former AMA Superbike race winner Jake Zemke scored pole position at the 70th running of the Daytona 200 backed by a very private effort. The Rolex was his but an eventual 3rd place finish was not enough to secure additional sponsorship, sidelining a potential title contender. It wouldn’t be the first time. |
Jake Zemke Goes for a Daytona 200 Win

Jake Zemke began the 2011 AMA Pro Racing season with enough resources for just one race, and he had to make it count. Arriving at the season opener with a very modestly funded team and machinery, Zemke put the unbranded all-black R6 on the Daytona 200 pole and eventually on the podium after a memorable and drama-filled race. However, his valiant effort did not earn him any additional races in the AMA that season altho several months later he would go on to claim a race win in the British Superbike EVO class on only his second attempt. |
