The first time I saw Valentino Rossi ride in person was at Laguna Seca in 2007, barreling into turn 5 to the tune of a deafening 990cc Yamaha M1 engine. My jaw dropped to the ground, and watching him at subsequent US GP's have done little to blunt the impact. To say that Rossi is my favorite racer may sound painfully cliche, but is a fact that I personally find somewhat remarkable considering I've always had the lifelong habit of rooting for the underdog. That glaring exception is yet another example of his seemingly universal appeal that transcends the sport he dominates.
