When I first started following the AMA series, Ben Spies was already the reigning 2-time AMA Superbike champion and locked in a battle with Mat Mladin for the 2008 title. In the small handful of events I've seen Spies in action, he has pulled off a double win at Miller Motorsport Park, set a new AMA Superbike record for longest winning streak with a 7th win at Road America, made testing and race appearances in MotoGP for the Rizla Suzuki team that surprisingly went nowhere, and another double at Miller as a World Superbike rider. With MotoGP currently dominated by the 4 "Aliens" the sky may not quite be the limit for Spies next season but taking best-of-the-rest honors is unlikely to be out of the question.
