July 19, 2013, 3:34pm – Whenever possible, I enjoy creating abstract compositions that intentionally obscure the rider’s exact location. This particular image shows then-MotoGP rookie Marc Marquez braking for turn 2 at Laguna Seca. There is a small “cliff”, for lack of a better word, lining that part of the track which offers spectators an angle usually reserved for low-flying helicopters. The track becomes its own background, and I also like the shape of Grand Prix bikes when the front suspension is compressed under heavy braking. This area usually becomes a madhouse on race day, which is why I chose to photograph this part of the track on a Friday.
