Marc Marquez Wins at COTA

April 22, 2018, 4:03pm – Photo opportunities are sometimes the result of a chain of unfortunate events, and this image serves as a good reminder of that. After the Moto2 race earlier in the day, I was a bit late getting back to the podium area as a result of missing a photo shuttle. As a result, I waited off to the side for the top three intermediate class finishers to roll in. That was when I realized that while everyone else had their cameras pointed at the incoming bikes, I had a clear unobstructed view of parc ferme when facing the other way. Having made the mental note, I intentionally waited in the same spot after the MotoGP race and was able to catch this view of Marc Marquez and his enthusiastically cheering team. The Nicky Hayden flag was a nice bonus. For those who have never been to COTA in person, this view also illustrates the sheer elevation change between pit lane and turn one.
