First full MotoGP grid since Assen and Casey Stoner of all people wrecked his bike in a high side during his warm up lap and did not start the race. Marco Melandri ran off the track, which went a long way in helping Chris Vermeulen finish off his last MotoGP season of the foreseeable future as the only rider to score points in every race of the 2009 season. Jorge Lorenzo set off his airbag when he nearly high sided early in the race, allowing Valentino Rossi to slip into 2nd position where he remained until the checkered flag. Ben Spies' finish in front of Andrea Dovizioso allowed Colin Edwards to take 5th in the final standings. Not last nor least, Dani Pedrosa's home turf victory keeps his MotoGP 2-race-wins-per-season streak alive.
