Topeka Day 2 Race Results and Twitter Report
First day of races at Topeka was a relatively normal affair considering all the drama building up to it. The overnight rain and morning drizzle made for an abbreviated schedule leading up to lunch time. A couple more pull-out casualties include Robertino Pietri and Chris Clark.
@OnTheThrottleTV Oh my, it's raining here in Topeka. Showdown time. Who will ride?
@CSpeedPhoto Revised schedule for today = qualifying sessions shortened to 15min apiece. What is that, 7 or 8 laps if nothing goes wrong?
@23race Storm pass'd thru last night & wreaked havoc w/popups in the pits. MJM made it thru okay. Rain this AM btw. Ontrack at 9:45 now.
@OnTheThrottleTV No showdown, the sun has come out. Sessions will be prac only, not considered qual
@OnTheThrottleTV When was the last time no Yosh bikes were on the front row of an AMA grid? Something like a century I think... In bike years at least
@OnTheThrottleTV Track is green for motogt prac but no bikes... Wait... Excuse me, one bike is on track
@DamoCudlin Rained here overnight, and very overcast this mornin. Expecting to see fireworks from the riders if it rains... Could b interesting.
@23race Sun is out here at Topeka and track is drying up. We're on-track in 30 minutes.
@OnTheThrottleTV Apparently supersport prac right now is a qual too
@OnTheThrottleTV Supersport is only allowed to use the Dunlop hard front tire which NO Sportbike team will touch with a 10 foot rim
@OnTheThrottleTV Superbike prac now. Not final qual. If you did not make it yesterday, too bad soo sad, you snooze you looze, etc etc
@jp43 heading out to track for another day. rained overnight really hard.
@OnTheThrottleTV Hayes went out did a couple laps to eval track and came in. Nothing to be accomplished really with wet patches and water still draining
@OnTheThrottleTV Times are pretty much 4 seconds off yesterday across the board
@paradigmracing A delayed and shortened warm-up session is currently underway...
@paradigmracing Track conditions are bad, all rubber washed off form overnight rain/cooler air temps/steady wind
@paradigmracing times are roughly 1.5 seconds off yesterdays qualifying pace
@automotophoto @CSpeedPhoto "There are some freaking HUGE spiders out here... I hate this place" BEST COMMENT EVER..
@23race 2-up rides about to go ontrack with a good group of 6. Nice day now.
@jp43 2up rides went great. 6 happy people. the more im figuring things out with Damo's Paradigm team the sadder it makes me with this paddock.
@OnTheThrottleTV Standing at the end of pit lane at the wall as superbikes race by 6 feet away at a buck 60 kicking rocks and rubber in my sunglasses!!!
@OnTheThrottleTV Tommy hayden just tried to make a pass right in front of me squeezing between the wall and laverty. SICK
@23race Pegram breaking away 4 seconds ahead. P2-7 super tight. Laverty crashed out. Yates P4 May P8
@OnTheThrottleTV Pegram is channeling Mladin and crushing everyone by over 4 seconds
@23race Final finishing positions for the MJM boys are Yates P5 and May P8.
@paradigmracing Good start by Bobby, one lap in and he's up to 6th
@paradigmracing red flag, rider down (not one of ours)
@paradigmracing Bobby takes the checkered flag in 5th!!
@paradigmracing solid finish for Ty in 22nd!!

@BenBostrom Topeka, need move more barriers. Fun track tho. Slick! No corner grip, good sliding. Makes a torque a big bonus here. Ducati&buell congrats!
@Tommy24racing Second podium :D Same step, but it feels gewdddd.
@michaellaverty Crashed out today, just lost the front, we are good to go again tomorrow, I was feeling really relaxed in the early stages too
@ShawnHigbee @MRRichter urrr I feel bad about grinding up the bodywork, you had it looking so good, damnit. Thanks for you help getting ready for the race!
@ShawnHigbee Today was very frustrating. We got caught up in a rule viloation and had to start at the end of the huge DSB field.
@ShawnHigbee It was insane on the start of DSB,weaving through guys left and right, made up like 15 positions in 2 laps, but then red flag sent me to back
@ShawnHigbee on 2nd restart,. bikes flipping and tumbling right in front of me, 3 guys took each other out even before we started, rolling starts=bad idea

And meanwhile, somewhere off the track...
@MatMladin Just finished a great book. "Crazy for the Storm" by Norman Ollestad.
Mat Mladin's absence as well as the absence of Yosh bikes on the front row made for an interesting plot to the American Superbike race, although a mistake by Blake Young early in the race left Larry Pegram quite a comfortable gap that never got closed up. In the end, Blake kept Yoshimura Suzuki on the radar with a 3rd place finish behind Ben Bostrom. Oh and just for the record, I was the one who tipped Dave Williams to make the no-Yosh bikes tweet ;)

As is usually the case, the Daytona Sportbike race was more of a nail-biter and also included a red flag in the opening laps. Danny Eslick crossed the line in first with the Graves Yamaha boys filling the rest of the podium in a near-instant replay of Mid-Ohio's race 1, partly thanks to Martin Cardenas running off the track in the closing stages while holding 2nd. However there was a yellow flag issue that can potentially impact Danny's race-winner status, in which case Chaz Davies is standing by to take 3rd place.

Update: Danny remains the race winner but gets penalized 10 points and half the purse money.
