The Anatomy of an American Superbike Race

Mat Mladin didn't get the holeshot in Saturday's American Superbike race, but by the time the field reached The Esses he was already in the lead. He would eventually complete the first lap with a 1.206 seconds ahead of Blake Young.

Lap 2 (2.323 second gap)

Lap 3 (3.351 second gap)

Lap 4 (4.237 second gap)

Lap 5 (5.531 second gap)... as you can see by now Blake isn't even in the frame anymore.

And here's what lap 6 looked like:

Mat Mladin went on to win the race by a very pre-DMG-esque 15.718 seconds sans Ben Spies in tow. Must be the bike again.
